The X-Files Season 10 Recap [Video]
When The X-Files went off the air in 2002, most of us thought that was the end of the franchise, at least as far as TV was concerned. Those hoping for a live action continuation had their hopes set on a next movie, which happened in the form of 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe. When this sequel opened to mixed reviews by fans and critics, along with disappointing box office numbers, it seemed like the door was finally closed on what had been one of TV’s biggest Sci-Fi shows. And then season 10 happened.
14 years had passed in between season 9 and 10 of The X-files airing on Fox. Season 10 had been labelled an “event series”, which is a very loose definition at this point. You could say it’s a one-off continuation of a show that’s been off the air for a while. Despite having both Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny return as leads Scully and Mulder, the tenth season proved to be a mixed bag.
Of the 6 episodes in season 10 only one proved to be up there with the best of The X-Files, this being Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster. The episode had been written by fan favorite Darin Morgan, who in the past had been the mind behind the classic episodes Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose and Jose Chung’s From Outer Space.
Unfortunately season 10 was plagued by the same thing that eventually undid the show: the mythology episodes. At this point the whole thing doesn’t make any sense anymore, but the current 11th season has no choice but to continue with this anyway.
If you’re like us and haven’t started the latest season yet (it debuted on the 2nd of January 2018), we thought it’d be good to get a refresher beforehand. The Av Club was kind enough to put together a 2 minute recap. Have a look here, and let us know how you feel about the return of The X-Files!
