When is Black Mirror season 5 being released?
We may finally have the release date for the new season of Black Mirror. The show, which started off with an episode centered around a man being forced to fuck a pig, has gradually morphed into a true culture phenomenon. We have written about the show before, for example in our piece “what is an anthology series?“, and have been fans from day one. The show, created by Charlie Brooker, started off in 2011 on Channel 4 and is now currently one of the millions (right??) of shows that belongs to streaming giant Netflix.
The previous season of the show, season 4, had all of its episodes released on the 29th of December. It looks like season 5 will be released around the same time with the release date being set for the 28th of December. This information came to us (through the Mirror) as a result of someone from Netflix accidentally sharing the date through Twitter, and then quickly deleting the tweet after. The title of the episode was also leaked, and will be Bandersnatch.
We recently found out one of the episodes in this 5th season will be a choose-your-own-adventure type of story. We’re not sure that will be Bandersnatch, or any of the other episodes set to be released.
If it was up to us, we’d see Charlie Brooker write an episode loosely based on Netflix’ streaming platform. There are lots of different angles to explore Netflix’ impact on the world, but we would recommend a case as recent as last month. It was then we wrote about Netflix’ racist algorithm and you can’t tell us there’s absolutely no potential in there. If that is what you’re telling us, then you might see us try to sell the storyline to one of Black Mirror’s knock-offs instead, such as Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.
