Whatever happened to… Lindsay Lohan
Given how much Lindsay Lohan has been written about in the press during her lifetime, it’s crazy to imagine she will only turn 38 in 2024. Although the actress started her Hollywood career at the young age of 6, she attracted wide attention. First as a child actress, then as a teen idol, and in the early 2010s as a cautionary tale of how Hollywood can ruin a young actress. Since it has been fairly quiet around the actress in recent history, we decided to find out whatever happened to Lindsay Lohan.
Although the actress made her first on-screen appearance as a 6-year-old in a 1992 skit on Late Night with David Letterman, she wouldn’t have her big break as a child actress until 1998’s The Parent Trap. In that remake of the 1961 Disney classic, Lohan took on a dual role as identical twins. She worked steadily afterward, but had to wait until 2004’s Mean Girls to really blow up. The movie had a razor-sharp script written by Saturday Night Live’s Tina Fey, and Lindsay Lohan proved herself to be more than adept at anchoring the entire thing.
Overnight Lohan became a Hollywood “It Girl”, idolized for her looks in combination with her sense of humor. The young actress also hosted a few episodes of Saturday Night Live to cement this further, and even had a celebrity doll made after her.
When Just My Luck bombed in 2006, the actress moved towards more mature roles with films such as A Prairie Home Companion, Bobby, and Chapter 27. Some of these were more successful than others. The goodwill the actress had garnered began dwindle as Lohan’s on-set performance became affected by nights of partying, rehab, being arrested for driving under the influence, and a scandal about her stealing a necklace.
As the 2000s came to a close, the roles for Lohan became smaller and by 2012 she was headlining made for TV movies, such as the critically reviled Liz & Dick (about Elizabeth Taylor). Since then, she’s tried reality TV (with 2014’s Lindsay) and being in front of live audiences with the stage show The Stage (also in 2014).
Lohan is currently living in Dubai. In recent years, she has once again given the reality world a go with MTV’s Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, about her life in Greece, where she owns three clubs. She also appeared in the second season of the UK show Sick Note.
In 2022, Lohan made a significant return to acting with the Netflix holiday film Falling for Christmas, marking her first lead role in years. This move has rekindled interest in her career, leading to another Netflix film, Irish Wish, in 2023. Additionally, Lohan has reached a new personal milestone, becoming a mother to a son named Luai in 2023, with her husband, Bader Shammas.
Lohan continues to explore new projects while enjoying her private life away from the Hollywood spotlight. As can be read in her recent interviews, Lohan is not ready to retire her acting dream yet:
To work with Martin Scorsese. Work with Spielberg. I don’t know. I think goals are limitless, and there’s always going to be something new that I want to do. I just want to make people happy, and I want to stay happy.
