Find out the plot of The Last Man On Earth: Season 5
Not all shows are unfortunately destined to finish their runs. In the most recent wave of TV cancellations and renewals both Brooklyn Nine Nine and The Last Man on Earth got axed. Whereas the former got picked up by NBC, the Will Forte comedy did not get as lucky. To provide fans with at least some closure, star Will Forte has revealed what the plot of The Last Man On Earth‘s fifth season would have been.
Forte was a guest on Vulture‘s Good Ones podcast, where he got asked how season 5 would’ve played out. Since petitions to save the show had tapered out, the star had no issue revealing how the cliffhanger of season 4 would’ve played out:
[These people] went down [into the bunker] when the virus had first started. They had some kind of medical expert or scientist who knew, ‘At this certain point, the virus will be dormant. You’ll be safe to get back out,’ and they had reached that point. Then they see a bunch of stragglers — us — and we represent a real threat to them, because they thought [everyone] was dead, so they quarantine us.
To continue, he said
We eventually communicate with them a little bit [and] they get comfortable with us. They look scary but they end up being nice people. Eventually we’d all get comfortable with each other. We are immune to the virus, but we’re carriers. And so we would infect them and they’d die like wildfire. And then we’re back to just our little group, and maybe one famous [guest star] we could talk into staying around.
Sounds like the show would’ve continue down the zany, sometimes dark, brand of comedy it had followed since it debuted. In terms of how the overall show would’ve ended, Forte didn’t have all the answers there, as he said:
We don’t know how we were going to end the show. We would have found something that would have been fitting for the audience.
