Find out more about the True Detective Season 3 story
Although it has been on a hiatus since 2015, HBO’s once revered show True Detective is about to start up again in 2019. We have some details for you about the True Detective season 3 story.
When the first season of True Detective premiered in 2014, it quickly garnered a strong following. It can be seen as one of the biggest drivers in the McConaissance, the resurgence of Matthew McConaughey’s career, because it was that damn good, and he was damn good. For those few of you unclear about what the show was about: McConaughey and Woody Harrelson played two detectives attempting to solve a crime. At least, that’s what season 1 was about.
The thing with True Detective is that it is an anthology series, which means the plot resets itself every season (find a longer explanation of what an anthology series is here). When season 2 debuted in 2015, it was with a new storyline led by Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams. Audiences were for the most part disappointed in the new storyline, and the show ended up on a hiatus after that season.
Luckily HBO is giving True Detective another chance in 2019, with a third season starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff. This time around the story will follow a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Series creator Nic Pizzolato says the location of the Ozars is especially important to the show:
The mystery of the deep woods. The fog over the mountains. The rivers. The water. The sense of scale when you get out to some of this nature. Also, what the buildings say about the lives behind them. I feel like people will see it as an extension of character, something that embodies characters’ emotional journeys while influencing those journeys.
Ali will be doing his part to hopefully live up to McConaughey’s performance in the first season, saying:
My character would not move or operate the same way if he was in New York. I’ve given myself permission to go slower even if they want me to speed up a bit. You end up essentially aligning yourself with the frequency of the pace. And that’s how something will resonate as being truthful or not.
We are definitely hopeful for the new season. Let us know in the comments how you feel!
